But I live just over an hour North of the border, so let's call us close neighbours.

An actual, real sign I saw outside of a BUSINESS today.

<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue light" , , "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif;">Living on the East Coast of Canada means I have taken a few trips to the Big Apple. I've seen all the popular sights: the Statue of Liberty, the Freedom Tower, Times Square, the Empire State Building, and of course, Trump Tower. When seeing such a grand building, one can't help but marvel, with it's floor to ceiling marble and gold finishes, rooftop gardens, luxury shops, and of course a Starbucks. I was in awe of this shrine you had built to yourself. I honestly wasn't sure what you even did for a living. It seemed a little conceited, but hey, you can do what you want with your own money, and I'll just take some pictures.

When I heard you were running for the Republican candidacy, all I could do was laugh. Since I don't live in America, it didn't really affect me and I never thought you'd actually win. But then you did. When I watched your campaign, I didn't really pay much attention at first because I never thought anyone would take you seriously. But then people were. As clips of you saying terrible things surfaced, including racist, sexist and homophobic remarks, I started to worry. But as more and more of these things came about, I assumed you must be losing supporters. My Facebook and Twitter feeds were flooded with Hillary supporters, and I never thought the election would even be close. I was wrong.

So now you are going to be President of the United States. Some say that it doesn't affect us in Canada, but it surely does. The President is one of the most influential world leaders, and the fact that we are attached to America does us no good at all. Not only that, but our neighbours to the South are no different than us. We are all North Americans, and I worry for them. There are children in this world who are going to grow up thinking that not all lives matter. Those who are Caucasian might grow up thinking that they have some special privilege and can take advantage of other minorities. Those who are not "blessed" with this skin colour or nationality might live in fear of how others are going to treat them. The work that so many others before us have done against racism, sexism, and other injustices could all be in vain.

I can truly and honestly say I know absolutely nothing about politics, global issues, and government processes. I am also a straight, middle-class, Christian Caucasian, so I have not faced struggles like some have. But at this point it doesn't matter. Who you are and what you stand for sets an example for people across the world, whether they understand everything that is going on, or not.

Seeing how you have built Trump Tower in your honour using your own money worries me. If you will use your own money to build such a lavish shrine to yourself, what are you going to do with the money of a country that is already so far in debt. How are you going to treat the other countries who will try to work alongside you? How are you going to fix the problems that are already present, without creating more?

People in Canada are making light of the situation, saying that the President doesn't have any say here and that it's hilarious. But it really does affect us in many ways. What will happen when our Prime Minister tries to collaborate with the you on world issues? Will it be safe for minorities from our country to travel to the USA for work and vacation? Are we going to see an influx of refugees if you decide to remove certain races or minorities? Can you actually do that?

Mr. Trump, you have a big job ahead of you. Half of your country doesn't feel that you can do this job. But the decision has been made. So now all I will do is pray for America, and pray for you. I pray that you will prove everyone wrong and somehow be the greatest President they have ever seen. They deserve that. I will pray that those living in fear will be at peace with this decision and be able to live freely. I will pray for the children who will grow up seeing you at the helm of the nation, that they will see through the inappropriate messages that have so far been portrayed by you and your supporters, and not think that they can also act this way.

When you take the reigns in January, I will pray for a renewal of your mind and attitude, that you will rule with an open mind and a caring spirit. It's possible that we were all wrong about you. For the sake of the world, I really hope that's true.

Sincerely (and on to lighter topics next time),
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue light" , , "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif;">

It all started about 5 years ago. For the longest time, I could never find a pair of jeans that would fit me just how I wanted them to. They were either too tight in the waist or too long in the legs, or too "mom-ish", or too flared, etc... One day, my mom came home with some clothes for me and everything changed. She had been to Old Navy, and while I don't usually like the clothes she picks out for me, I tried on the jeans anyway. They fit like a glove! I always thought that Old Navy had "old people" or "preppy clothes". But since that day, I don't think I have ever bought a pair of pants from anywhere else.
Seriously, Old Navy has clothes for every style and shape. Somehow, when I go into the store, I know I can pick up any shirt and as long as it's my usual size, I don't even have to try it on. Their jeans are actually the best. They fit just right, sucking in at all the right places. They've also got coloured and patterned pants which I just love and own a large variety of. They always have different dresses available, which vary in color, pattern and style but all seem to fit the same way. I wish I was kidding when I said that literally every article of clothing I wear on a regular basis is from Old Navy.
As someone who is considered "plus size" by most standards, I find it really hard to go into stores and not be able to shop in the "regular" section, instead having to scout out the Plus section. In Old Navy, there's no such thing. All of their clothes go up to size XXL and the pants go up to size 20 (I think possibly higher online as well). I can't tell you how great it is to be able to walk into a store, and not worry about if I'll find something that fits. The sky is the limit!
The final thing I love SO much about Old Navy is the prices. Some thrift shoppers of the world might walk in and think a lot of their clothes are a little pricey. However, if you sign up for their emails you'll know that they pretty much always have some kind of sale going on. For example, last night I went and almost everything was 40% off! They also have "Super Cash" sometimes, where you earn Super Cash to use on another trip a few weeks later. Yesterday I got around $300 worth of clothes for $80! Can't beat that!

Before you ask, this post is not sponsored (although Old Navy please hit me up if you're interested because I basically keep you in business with my purchases alone...). I just wanted to share with the world where you can find great clothes for good prices, regardless of your size! If I could, I seriously would just live there.

Do you have a store that is like this for you? Do you shop at Old Navy often? Let me know!

Until next time,

I've been doing some thinking lately, and I wanted to write my thoughts to try and make sense, and so you guys can weigh in if you like!

So, in my church I kind of mentor a girl in our youth group. She is 17 going on 30, and she actually helps me sometimes and has some really interesting thoughts and ideas. The other day, she texted me distressed after one of her classes.

You see, her teacher ruined love. Basically, she said that there is no such thing as one true soulmate, but possibly a few people around the world who you come into contact with and fall in love. So in her opinion, love is based on a series of "geographical happenings". Well. How upset would you be as a 17 year old girl who thinks that everyone has 'one true love'. It's as if her dream was crushed! But this conversation got me thinking.

In this world, is there really only one person for us? One true love, or soulmate for everyone? I'm not so sure. If this was the case, then I think there would be a whole lot of people who never got married. What if my mom's soulmate lived in China? I would never have existed. Well maybe, but I would have looked a bit different. What if Kate Middleton grew up in Papua New Guinea? Where would Prince George be now?

It could be true that love depends on 'geographical happenings'. But maybe those geographical happenings are the work of "true love's" magical forces bringing those two people together. Who knows, really?! What I do know is, I hope some geographical happenings come into my life sometime real soon! What do you guys think of this phenomenon?

Until next time,

If you live quite far north of the equator like I do, then it's likely you have experienced the mid-winter blues. If you're anything like me, you think that snow is for Christmas, and then it can kindly go away forever. I am really having those feels right about now. If you've been following the news at all, you will see that New England has been hit with some big winter storms this past week, and I don't live too far from New England! This is about the time that I'm ready to pack up and move to Florida, or Australia, or any other equally warm place! The fact that my work keeps getting cancelled is not helping as well, and I'm starting to go a little bit shack wacky.

How do you keep busy when you're snowed in! Any tips would be greatly appreciated....

Until next time!

Here I sit, on the couch. After downloading the "couch-to-5k" app, I have been gung ho to start running for a couple of days now. So tonight, although I have a wicked cold, I laced up my running shoes and hopped on the treadmill. I should also have mentioned that I have never ran a day in my life. Armed with my fitspiration playlist and my bottle of water, I did just what the app told me to do... A brisk walk. Hmmm! This is not so hard! But....

After about 5 minutes, a little voice chimed in through my headphones... "Let's jog!" Whoa there Nelly, one step at a time here. But I did as I was told and quickened my pace. It took about one minute for me to start feeling light headed, and as soon as the cheerful lady said "walk" again, it was off the treadmill for me.

So we're back to where we started. Back on the couch, I'm kind of feeling like I failed. Surely it can't be that hard to walk for 1.5 minutes, run for one, and so on... Can it? Only time will tell.

How do you motivate yourself to do something you've really been dreading? Any tips appreciated...

Welcome back to Liv Loves. It's been one hell of a few months, but I had some spare seconds so I thought I'd check in!

"It's like that feeling when you're 'bout to win the medal, and you worked so hard that you knew you wouldn't settle,"

'Something Big' by Shawn Mendes is one of my favourite songs right now, and not just because he is a fellow Canadian! I've had a feeling for some time now that 2015 is going to be a good year for a few reasons...

In 2015, I am going to get healthy. I have said this so many times before, but this year I really mean it. They say that there has to be a moment when you just decide, and that's the end of it. Well, I've decided and I mean it! Last year I wanted to lose weight, and blog about it to keep me accountable. But then if I didn't lose weight or didn't have time to blog, I felt double bad. So I won't say I'm going to blog about it this time, I'm just going to do it!

But that's not the only thing that's going to happen in 2015. This year, I am going to...

- see a dermatologist about finally getting my face cleared up;
- participate in a missions trip to a place I LOVE (post here);
- see 1D in concert again with amazing friends; and
- GRADUATE FROM MY MASTERS PROGRAM!!!!

I feel like I've been fighting (and losing) an uphill battle for the past year or so. But now it's time to turn it around for the better. Let's do this together! Let me know your goals for 2015 :)

Until next time,

It's getting close to Halloween, aka my favourite time of year, and I am super excited! My friend and I are dressing up as Jack and Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas, but we're not going anywhere.... we'll just be handing out treats at my house! What are your plans for Halloween?

I have recently been promoted to management at my job, and as such I have been doing training for the last couple of weeks. For anyone who doesn't know, I work at a treatment clinic for preschool-aged children with autism. I am very passionate about this field, and I absolutely love my job and all of the kiddos I see!

As part of my training, we watched a BBC show about a girl named Rosie, who lives in the UK and has autism. When I saw this, it really struck a chord with me. I always find it so heart wrenching when we get to hear about autism from a person who is able to explain how their mind works and what they are experiencing. This is just a short video, but it is really eye-opening and I really encourage you to give it a watch!

Another great movie that helps explain how people with autism think and feel is Temple Grandin. This is about a real woman in Arizona who was very interested in cattle, and with her unique way of thinking was able to imagine and build systems that many farmers at the time could never dream of!

So, I just wanted to share something with you today that I am really passionate about, but I also want to know what you love! Let me know with some lovely comments :)

Until next time!
But Mostly Die. Hello there!

As you may recall, I had mentioned a while back (about February time) that I was going to be doing the Run or Dye 5k in June. Well, I did it! And it was HARD. To start, I was fully expecting it to take place on roads, so I thought nothing of wearing my Toms so that my new sneakers wouldn't get dirty. However, it was actually on grass... and it had just rained. But I slid onward. Not only were we on grass, but also a SKI HILL. We walked downhill, uphill, around hill, and even fell on my hiney a time or two. At every kilometre, we were covered in powdered dye, and that was so much fun! We ended up missing one colour as I was too winded to make it up and down one hill, so we just cut through the trail markers and kept going! Anyway, I am very proud to say that I finished the Run or Dye 5K, and here are a few pictures to prove it! (All of these were taken before or after as I didn't want to get my phone dirty!)

I have had a very busy few weeks indeed. But they have certainly been wonderful! I wanted to tell you one of the reasons for that today... I have two new family members!

About two months and one month ago, respectively, I welcomed two precious little ones into my home in the form of... GUINEA PIGS!!!!

Bubbles and Archie are the new loves of my life, they are literally the cutest things I have ever owned. I got them out of a pretty frightful pet store situation (18 of them in one tank thing... yikes!) and had to spend a small fortune at the vet's getting them free of lice and mites. But now they are healthy little piggies and I love them to pieces! The only thing is, they are just babies and they don't always let me hold them.. at all! Anyone know about this? Comment below if ya do :)

There's only so much you can say about guinea pigs really, so I'll let these few pictures speak for themselves. Enjoy!
I'm back! I promise I'm back!

Let's get right into it, shall we? In my last post I left off with meeting James Bourne in the Dublin airport (legitimately can not believe I just typed those words all in one sentence... WHAAAAT?!)

When we arrived in London, we made our way to the Generator Hostel near Russell Square. We were a bit nervous for this at first, as we booked a four-person room and we weren't sure what type of roommates we would have. We lucked out big time! We were sharing a room with a married couple from the States. They were super nice and didn't mind when we came in a bit late some nights! They did sleep a bunch during the day, but I think they were feeling a bit under the weather. Anyway, the Generator was so cool! It was definitely not what you would expect of a hostel. In most aspects anyway. Like there was still a breakfast line to eat in a cafeteria in the mornings, and the rooms weren't all that fancy, but it really was a neat place. We probably could have gotten a hotel a bit farther from Central London for cheaper, but for the location you really couldn't beat the price. Here's a pic of the cool piano in the lobby of the hostel!

This was one of the main attractions I wanted to see, as noted on my face that never stopped smiling the whole time... The next night we saw Wicked, which was... wicked. I didn't take any pictures as you're not allowed... but trust me! Then it was time to move on from the Generator to a hotel closer to Wembley Stadium, and you know what that means... MY BOYS!

We headed on over to Wembley for a night of dancing all night to the best song ever, including the Macarena between 5 Seconds of Summer and 1D. So much fun. Here are a few pics from the night, and please comment below if you would like to see any videos because I certainly have those aplenty as well!

I hope you are all doing well! I imagine you are. I am home from my European adventure, and although I had the best intentions of updating you during the trip, hotel internet can be a bit sketchy sometimes. It did not work in my favour, so now here I am with what I'm sure will be a mammoth post. Without further adieu, here's what we got up to!

In my last post, I posted some pictures of the Niall Horan Charity Football Challenge in Leicester. So, I'll start going through my pictures from that point on and just post some of my favourite ones with a little blurb where necessary. Get it? Got it? Good.

So, one of the first things we had to do in London was, obviously, go to afternoon tea. We really enjoyed the Alice in Wonderland themed tea at the Sanderson hotel. Uber expensive, but SO worth it! The dress I'm wearing is from Forever 21, and Kim's is from Bluenotes (I believe).

Harry looks slightly deformed there, but you get it. We then made a last minute decision to venture down to the London Eye, just as the sun went down.
Here are a few pictures from the next few days of sightseeing. At the end of our first stint in London, we went to a Katy Perry concert at the O2 Arena. I didn't take any pictures inside as I could only bring my phone and we were too far up. But the bottom right photo is myself all done up for the event!

The morning after Katy Perry, we attempted to catch a train/ferry to Dublin for the next two days. Of course we missed the train. But, there was another shortly after, so we boarded that one with our wallets a bit lighter, through Wales and on to Dublin! These two pictures show where we passed through that town... with the really long name. A lady on the train taught us how to say it! Kind of...
The second picture was a very excited one, as we found Tim Horton's in Dublin!! For those of you non-Canadians, Tim Horton's coffee shops are like a national symbol. Don't ask why.
On June 2nd, we ate some yummy burgers at Gourmet Burger Kitchen, and headed off to see McBusted at the O2!

Now. Here is something rather exciting. Not wanting to miss our flight back to London like we had done with the train, we showed up to the airport pretty early. We were in the process of moving some things around in our bags when a stranger approached me. It took me a second, but suddenly it dawned on me who this mystery man was. 'Twas none other than Mr. James Bourne from Busted!!! He saw me wearing my McBusted shirt from the concert (it's what happens when you squeeze your suitcase shut and realize you're still wearing your pyjamas). He came over for a quick chat, and we got a little photo. So cool! I was almost shaking as I called my mom afterward. Please excuse my hideosity in this photo, I didn't really know what to do with myself!

Okay. This post is getting way too long for my liking. So this was the first week of our trip done, and I've decided I'll cut it here for now. My next post may or may not be about week two, I may save it for later! All depends if I get any ideas in the meantime. Hope you've enjoyed hearing about the trip so far, and please leave some comments below letting me know if you like this style, if I'm rambling on too much or if there are too many pictures for your taste! I will take it with a grain of salt and try to make the next one even better :)

My internet is rather slow and we are just in the hotel for a few minutes, but I wanted to slap on a couple photos of what we've done so far!

So the first thing we did was a bus tour, during which my camera died about 1/3 of the way through but I got a few pictures!

The next day (yesterday) we took the train to Leicester to watch the Niall Horan Charity Football Challenge. You can imagine I just about died when I heard about this event and bought tickets as soon as it was announced! It was raising funds for Irish Autism Action and Hearts and Minds UK, a Scottish arts-in-health organization. As an autism support worker studying to be a clinical therapist, this is a cause that is very near and dear to me! Present at the game were various celebrities and footballers, including Liam, Louis, Niall and Harry, as well as Piers Morgan, Ronan Keating, and Jack Whitehall. Harry wasn't supposed to be there, so I almost fell over when he ran onto the pitch! It was an AMAZING day.
Yes, it's me again, were you expecting someone else?

I need to make a note to myself to never say I am going to write a post on a certain day or at a certain time, because I never do it (see previous post). But regardless, here we are once more.

As I type this, my eyes are half closed and I should have ended laptop time about an hour ago. A mixture of homework and the sounds of my brother yelling at his video game have kept me awake thus far, so now is as good a time as any for a little chat.

I don't really have a theme for this post, but just wanted to throw some things out into the world and see where they land. If you have been reading for a while, you will remember that I was anxiously awaiting a once in a lifetime (well hopefully more than once) dream trip to London and Dublin. Well guess what. THAT TRIP IS THIS SATURDAY. AS IN TWO DAYS FROM NOW. At the moment I am a big ball of nerves and excitement and stress and smiles and tears and GLEE. I can't even really comprehend it all. It still feels kind of like a dream that I'll wake up from right before takeoff. However, the overflowing suitcase at the foot of my bed and my depleting bank account tell me otherwise. I can't wait to get this trip started, and I'll be sure to take lots of pictures every step of the way!

I really wanted to write more, but I just yawned approximately seven times while writing that last paragraph. So rather than blabber on, I think I'll leave it here. If I have time in the next couple of days I will write something, BUT NO PROMISES. See how I am setting myself up for success here?

I know there are only a few of you that comment here, but I'm wondering, would you rather I do small posts as I have time while in London? Assuming I have any time at all. Or would it be better to do one big post when I get home? Let me know!

Until next time!

Yes, it's me, Liv. Please don't hurt me, I know it's been a while.

Do you ever get this grand, fun idea in your head, but then when you try really hard at it, it's not so fun anymore? When I started this blog, I had this grand notion of sunshine, lollipops and rainbows all the time. But I got so caught up in writing the right thing, or trying to sound a certain way, that this did not become the case. Blogging kind of lost its appeal because it just became so dang hard!

Here's what I'm thinking. Who says blogging can't be unicorns and gumdrops? And why should I ever try to be something I'm not? It's all quite silly, the stress I put on myself. So, from now on I will continue to write, as 100% me. It might get a little weird, and you might not always be particularly enthused by the material, but I'm going to give it a fair shot.

Get ready world, it's about to get crazy.

Until next time (and by next time I mean at some point in the next 5 hours),
Liv :)
Another week gone by that I've been slacking in the blogging department, but what else is new? I figure that this is a hobby, so if some time goes by that I can't spare a moment to blog, then that will be okay.

I have returned to the blogosphere today because I am dying to tell you about a miracle hair product I have uncovered. For years I have been struggle with hair that becomes greasy very easily, and a scalp that itches when you apply almost any product. I have bought many a clinical shampoo, been checked for head lice multiple times, the lot. But I just couldn't seem to find a product that worked! Of course I must have looked crazy, taking a scratch at my head when I thought no one was looking, and it can become a pain when you have to wash your hair every day. Until about a week ago. That was when it hit me.

*drumroll please?!*

KIDS' shampoo! When you think about it, it makes sense, doesn't it? Kids' shampoo doesn't contain as many of the nasty additives, is soft on your hair, and usually comes as 2-in-1 with conditioner. Not only that, but it smells wonderful to boot. I swear, I would go wash my hair again right now just to smell it. It left my hair feeling soft, no itchies on my scalp, and I didn't have to condition, so no greasy hair! The new kind also does not contain any parabens, which is A+ in my books.

As I mentioned in a previous post, I have begun the slow and steady journey that is weight loss. Today, I just thought I would give you a bit of an update!

To be honest, the last month or so has been completely horrible when it came to my quest. Since I am living back home for the moment, I've filled up my schedule with activities I couldn't do when away at school. This has been great, but since taking a second job it has been entirely too much. Due to being absolutely exhausted all of the time, I have been constantly sick in some form for at least three weeks now! What a drag. Time management has never been one of my strong suits, and it's beginning to catch up with me for sure.

So, let's start again, shall we? I'm still not all the way back up to my starting weight, so let's get cracking. This is a rather boring update, but I did say I'd be keeping myself accountable on here!

Until the next (hopefully better) time,
It's been a week since you've heard from me... That must mean that the semester has officially begun! Back into the swing of things, let's get rolling!

I don't know about you, but I tend to find new music by browsing through the top charts of iTunes. And boy, did I ever stumble on a gem this week!

If you read my previous post about how I have a bit of a soft spot for country music, then you might have guessed that I love Hunter Hayes. Hunter Hayes is a 22-year-old country/pop singer from Louisiana, and his music is to die for. I've always been impressed with how thoughtful and meaningful his lyrics are, and it also helps that he filmed the video for my favourite song in my little city, IN MY OLD HIGH SCHOOL! But this is not what I am writing this post about.

This week, I was especially impressed with Hunter Hayes. Near the top of the charts was his new song "Invisible". Basically, the song is about being bullied when you're young, how he has been there, and a promise that it will get better. As someone who was a victim of bullying in high school, this song made me tear up a bit the first time I heard it. I wanted to share it with you today; whether you've been bullied in the past or are going through it now. If you're facing it now, I promise you that the song is right, and it does get better. It definitely did for me.

So if you're feeling lost, or just down in the dumps, I would definitely recommend this song to you. It's so inspirational, and it just might help you get through those really tough times.

The lyric video leaves a little to be desired, but you get the idea :)
Hey all,
hope you're having a fabulous week.

Yesterday after work my friend asked for a drive to a city an hour away to the passport office. Instead of simply dropping off the paperwork and going back home, we decided to make a day of it. We thought it would be fun to do something we can't do at home, so we went to paint some pottery!

We both have a lot going on right now, so sitting down for three hours and focusing on painting was exactly the mental break needed to de-stress. She painted measuring cups and spoons, and I painted a chevron mug and measuring cups.
I will admit that I do not have very many skills in the slightest. I am a terrible cooker/baker, as you may have noticed from the lack of promised macaron recipe... They weren't exactly a roaring success. I am not a fabulous writer, and I'm not too artsy fartsy. But this skill level was perfect, and we managed to create some cute pieces! Once they are glazed and fired in a kiln, we will go to pick them up. It's amazing how the colors actually appear once fired! I will be sure to post some pictures on that day.

What do you do to de-stress? Are you artsy? A baker? Let me know in the comments!

Until next time,
Happy Saturday.

I am currently buried underneath a mountain of tissues, and my sleeping companion is Vicks VapoRub. But something wonderful happened over the last three days of illness: I discovered Sherlock.

If you're like me, you probably search regularly through the depths of Netflix, searching for a new movie or TV series to enjoy. In my wonderful, feverish state, I finally gave in to the phenomenon known as 'Sherlock'. I've never been a fan of British TV. There's nothing wrong with it, I just never got into it. But when I saw this on Netflix, I just couldn't resist anymore. And let me tell you, I'm glad I gave in.

If you've never heard of it (which I sincerely hope is not the case), Sherlock is a show based on the Sherlock Holmes books. But the beauty of it is that it's reimagined in the modern day. In a few words, it's nothing short of genius.

It's clever, gripping, and so perfectly British. Not only that, but it cleverly interprets the classic Sherlock Holmes books and remains quite accurate. All of the actors are dang attractive, to boot. The only thing missing is Sherlock uttering those famous words "Elementary, my dear Watson".

In my experience, there's only one show that can release six episodes, take a two year hiatus, and still cause pandemonium upon its return. I will be forever grateful that I discovered it after that break, but now that I have finished I am having some serious withdrawal. How did you people do it for two years?!

In short, if you're looking to watch a new TV series, but don't want to take the next seventeen years to get through it, check Sherlock out. I promise you will not regret it!

Until next time,
Liv :)
hope you're well! I have just emerged from a frenzy of trip planning. I have never gone on a trip that my mother or a travel agent didn't arrange, and I am now learning that is very stressful! However, today I wanted to drop a quick line to tell you about a gem I have found on the internet: Hotwire.com

I am sure you've seen the commercials on TV, with the catchy jingle. But I am here to tell you, it really works! You simply put in your dates and the area you'd like to stay, and Hotwire whizzes up a list of "secret" hotel deals. Here's the kicker: it doesn't give you the name of the hotel until you've booked. Yes, you take the chance of getting something you didn't want, but if you do a little bit of fiddling around on TripAdvisor you can usually determine what hotel it is before you book. Sometimes there aren't any great deals, but sometimes you strike gold! So as I haven't slept a full night in about a week due to the stress of this room-booking fiasco, I just thought I would share a bit of wisdom with you on this fine day.

Until next time,
Liv :)
Happy hump day! We are eight days into 2014, and it's time to begin a new series: Liv Loses.

As I've mentioned before, I want to embark on a weight loss journey. So here goes nothing! I am perfectly happy with how I am, but I've decided that I'm tired of being out of breath for simple things and not always being able to wear the clothes I like. It's time for a change! Tomorrow I start a three-day juice cleanse as a kick start, and on Sunday I begin eating healthy. My gym membership starts on the 15th of this month, so I'm really excited to start the transformation!

However, I must admit something. When it comes to weight loss, I've pretty much tried it all. SlimFast, PINK Method, Weight Watchers, Curves, you name it. Sure, all of them work, but I can never seem to find the motivation to stick with it. When you think of losing thirty or forty pounds, it seems like a world a way, and doesn't seem like enough. But when you actually look at a picture of what that one pound of fat looks like, it's easy to see that every last bit makes a difference. Since I have the habit of giving up, I've decided to do not one, not two, but THREE things to keep me accountable in 2014.

First, I have joined the ShayLoss DietBet! I won't go into too much detail, but basically you put $30 into the pot, "betting" that you can lose 4% of your body weight in one month. If you succeed, you get your $30 back, along with a cut from the pot of people who didn't succeed. What a great idea! I encourage you to check it out here.

Secondly, I'm going to stay accountable to you guys! Every week or two weeks, depending on how I progress, I plan to make an update post here on my blog. Whether you read it or not is up to you, it's more for my sake to keep motivated and truly see the difference!

Thirdly, I am going to be putting together a team to do the Run or Dye 5k colour run this June! If you don't know what this is, it's basically a 5k run, where volunteers throw coloured powder at you after each kilometre. It looks like so much fun, and this is going to be my six-month goal! I have downloaded an iPhone app called "Couch to 5k", which gives you a different running/walking schedule each day for 9 weeks. The idea is that you should be able to work your way from never running at all to running five kilometres in those 9 weeks! Of course, it all depends on how often you do it, so I am going to start at three days a week. My motivation will be completing the Run or Dye 5k with my best friends.

What are your big goals for 2014? Is this series something you would like to see more of? It's really more for me than anything else, but if it helps anyone else at all it's even more worth it!

Hope everyone is having a splendid weekend so far. Tonight I just wanted to share with you a few little blog-related tidbits that I thought would be best served all at once, rather than in separate little posts. For your sake, I'll keep the chatter to a minimum and get straight to it!

- Firstly, something I have wanted to do for quite some time is host a giveaway here on Liv Loves. So, I have decided to do a special treat for my readers. Over the next month, I will be doing a "Made in Canada" giveaway, where I will pick a few of my favourite, exclusively Canadian treats to give away. Shipping is expensive so it won't be anything major, but I thought it was a cute idea. Click "Giveaways" at the top of this page to find out how to enter!

- Second, you may have noticed that Liv Loves can be found at a new address! I've ditched the "blogspot.com" tag, and went for the simple ".net". Just wanted to clean things up in the new year, and as ".com" was already taken, I thought this one sounded just as cool. So, welcome to the new and slowly improving livloves.net!

- Finally, I have decided to feature a select few blogs on my page, by way of advertising. I am offering a couple of different options this year, and you can find out about those by clicking "Sponsor" at the top of this page. The prices are very reasonable, I think. By doing this, I hope to not only help you spread the word about your blog, but also start to build a community of like-minded bloggers, working together for the "greater good"!

Well, I do feel better now that all of that's out of the way. I hope you all have a lovely Sunday, and you are sure to hear from me soon!

Until next time!
Happy New Year! Sorry for the belated post, I had a beautiful post written while I was away for the holiday, but forgot about the auto-refresh function on my iPad... Bye-bye blog post!

Every year around this time, people resolve to do certain things over the next 365 days. I am one of these people, but rather than 365 days I tend to make it to around 36.5. This year, I want to do better. So to keep me going, I thought I would share my resolutions in an attempt to stick with it. Here we go!

- Love More - Relationship-wise, 2013 was not great for me. I wasted most of the year waiting for something that was not going to happen. Looking back, I think I'm glad it never did... I'm not convinced yet. But in 2014, I'm putting it all behind me. A fresh start, and a new outlook on life and love in the new year will do me some good.

- Eat Less, Exercise More - Well, I have officially joined the gym. I start on January 15th, and it's time to stick with it. And this time, I'm doing it totally for me. There are only a handful of occasions that I don't like how my body looks, however I often find myself unable to keep up with my friends (who walk freakishly fast) or find the clothes I really want in the right size. This year I would like to lose at least 60 pounds, by eating right and going to the gym every day if possible.

- Spend Less - I admit, I'm not great with money. I often buy things I don't need, when I don't really have the money. Don't get me wrong, a shopping spree every once in a while is wonderful, but when you're a student and only working part-time, things can get tight between paychecks. This year, I have made a separate savings account, where I will save enough for my trip to the UK, and then continue to pay off my student debt. By putting the money aside instead of directly into my chequing account, I'll be less likely to spend it on silly things.

- Blog More - Yowza! When I started this blog back in April, I never thought I would enjoy it so much. I have had such a great time thinking of ideas for posts, and sharing my little thoughts and ponderings with the world. I made the decision in September to invest a little chunk of change on this space, for advertising and design, and I honestly think it's the best decision I could have made. That being said, I kind of let the whole thing get away from me as it grew. This year I definitely hope to stay committed to this little project and keep it going. I have been so blessed this year by all of you followers who have joined the family, and I look forward to seeing where 2014 will take us!

So that's it! Those are my main New Years' resolutions. You may think it's silly of me to share these things publicly, but I just think of it as a way to stay accountable! Please feel free to leave a comment below, telling us what your resolutions are for 2014!

Until next time,
