The Most Awkward First Date Ever.

Oh hello again!

Surprised to see me so soon? It just so happens that I have no major schoolwork this weekend, so I plan on writing a few posts for your enjoyment.

Today I want to tell you a cringe-worthy life encounter of mine. Let's title it:

#ItWasTheMostAwkwardDateEver2011

We set our scene in a mall. I was there with my best friend, who had been dating this guy for about 3 months. Just as I finished looking at the leggings and moved on to the dresses, my friend announced that her boyfriend was coming to the mall, and we were going to a movie. Not only this, but he was bringing his roommate. Oh. Okay.

One thing that she failed to mention, however, was that this roommate was painfully shy. And by painfully shy, I mean SILENT. We entered the movie theatre and were seated, and cue the silence.

Here is the best part. Upon being seated and waiting for the film to start, my friend from home called. A friend who is not very emotionally stable, and who was in "crisis". I was then required to calm her down from my movie theatre seat.

When the movie ended, we checked our phones to find that we had missed the last bus. "Let's walk home!" was the bright idea of the night. I was then required to walk next to this boy for the entirety of the 20+ minute walk home, in SILENCE.

Now, I bet you want to ask me "but Liv, why didn't you say anything?" I have asked myself that question, many times. Well, my own anxiety took over in this lovely situation, and I was at a loss for words. Thus making this the MOST AWKWARD FIRST DATE EVER (in my life anyway).

I have since recovered from this tragic event, moving on to bigger and better things. I have even SPOKEN to that boy on a few tipsy run-ins at the club. But I knew it was probably a good thing that I did not date this boy, as I later found out that he was sleeping with a 57 year old mall custodian. I still never fail to cringe every time I look back on this occasion, and thought I would share some of my embarrassment with you all on this fine weekend.

So, until next time!
Liv :)

Leaving the Nest

Hey all,
welcome back! Tonight I wanted to talk about one of my life experiences that everyone will eventually go through, and might like to hear about: moving away from home/going away to university.

When I was 17, I left home to go to university about 1.5 hours away from home. Mind you, I would still be coming home for the summers, but living away from home for 8 months at a time is still a big deal. Having skipped a grade, I graduated high school at age 17 and 2 days, and flew the coop shortly thereafter.

If you've ever heard the phrase "university is the best 4 years of your life", it really is true. Here are a few snaps from my time away:

Frosh Week.

Toga parties (I was in charge of the barbecue)...

Awesome friends.

Awesome friends that make you awesome Valentines.

People with interesting.... interests.

These are just a few pictures from my time away! To be honest, I wish I had taken more pictures. I know there are some things I didn't document that I'll wish I remembered when I'm old and grey!

Leaving home can be a scary experience. When my parents and I packed up the SUV and drove up to campus, I was greeted by an enthusiastic group of frosh week leaders waiting to unload all of my belongings into a tiny room. I remember that as we pulled into the parking lot, a loud, bearded man approached the window, and I turned to my mom and said "I'm scared." Boy, am I glad I moved past that initial feeling of terror. Little did I know that I would be in charge of the group scaring innocent new students the following year!

Living away from home teaches you so many things. For one, it gives you a chance to totally start over. Decide who you want to be. No, that does not mean you should be someone you are not. But when all of your new friends have no expectations of you, it's easier to let the best version of yourself shine through. I also learned how to fend for myself. Nothing says independence like cooking your own meals (no matter how simple they may be). Finally, I learned how to bullshit an entire paper and still manage to get a good mark. This can be a very useful skill indeed.

Whether you're going away to university, or just moving away from your parents, make sure to embrace it all! It may seem scary, but trust me: if you let it, it will be the best experience of your life!

Until next time,

A Change Would Do You Good

What a great song!

Before I start talking about this subject, I just wanted to apologize for my absence over the last few days! I find, sadly, that the weekends are my busiest times for schoolwork, so they will probably be pretty quiet as far as my blog goes.

Aaaah, Pinterest. If you are like me, you may have browsed the pages of Pinterest, and wished you could possess just an ounce of the style in your own home that's floating around the "Home Decor" boards these days.

In my case, I am still stuck living at home with the parentals. In the past couple of months, since I am not moving back to school this year, I have been itching to turn my room into a "grownup room". You see, due to the fact that I have not been living here for long periods of time, my room has not changed since I was about 14.

Over the last few weeks, I have made lots of changes to my room, and it is looking fabulous. I have painted the walls a light blue, to cover the lime green that was once there. Painting is a relatively inexpensive way to really spruce up a room. I have bought new furniture, to replace the four-poster bed and princess dressers I have had since age 4, and I have even set up a little fish tank! I find that sometimes changing up your environment can make life a little more exciting, even if it's just for a little while. I also find that doing little DIY projects to add to a room can be fun as well.

I really want to share my finished space with you all, however my new mattress is currently on back-order. This is causing my bed to look a little funny at the moment! Once that arrives, I'll be sure to take lots of photos and let you into my little world!

What projects have you been itching to take on in your home? I want to know!

Until next time!

What Does the Fox Say?

Hey everyone!
Welcome back!

This post is going to be a bit of a different, personal one! I was talking to my friend, Kim (check out her blog here) about what I was going to write about tonight. She told me I should write about what I'm excited for in 'Septober'. So that is what I am going to do!

In Septober, I am excited to start getting healthy. I have always been a bigger individual, and I have always hated it. But not quite enough that I really did anything about it. Sure, I have done diets and joined the gym, but I have never stuck to it.

One of my favourite things to do is discover new YouTubers and watch lots of their videos. In the past couple of days, I have stumbled across the various channels of the Shaytards. If you've heard of them, you might know that Shaycarl, the daddy of the family, had a pretty awesome weight loss journey and got himself in great shape. I have to say, this really inspired me. So a few days ago I decided to start getting healthy and in shape. It's not going to be easy, or quick by any means, but I'm really excited to see what I can accomplish and to keep you all posted.

Don't worry, just as I said this was not going to become a religious blog, it's not going to be a weight loss blog either. This is just going to be one of the many lifestyle topics I mention every once in a while.

So, here I go! Well... not right at this moment. I'm currently working on three school assignments while listening to a loop of S Club 7, Luke Bryan, and the ever popular song "What Does the Fox Say".

Until next time!

Get In My Belly

Hello there!
Today I thought I would change things up a bit by sharing a recipe!

One of my favourite things to make for a party is nachos. But usually, the recipe for nachos is pretty straightforward. Today I wanted to share a recipe that I've been using recently that is a yummy alternative! Here are the ingredients you'll need:

- 1 bag of nacho chips (Tostitos are my favourite)
- 1 lb. of ground beef
- 1 packet of taco seasoning
- 1 bag of shredded cheese
- 1 bottle of french dressing

You won't be using the entirety of these ingredients, but you can't exactly buy half a bottle of dressing now can you?

The first thing to do is preheat your oven to 'broil'. If you don't have this preset on your oven, set it to 550°F.

The next thing to do is fry up your hamburger on the stove. Once it starts to break up more easily, you can add in your taco seasoning and make sure it's well mixed in. You can use as much of the packet as you see fit.

Spread an even layer of nacho chips on a pan. You don't want too many in a pile, as the toppings won't reach the bottom that way. Now, here is where the twist comes in.

Drizzle your french dressing on the nachos as you would with barbecue sauce on typical nachos. Make sure you don't get any huge globs as this will make the nachos soggy.

Spread your cooked hamburger and shredded cheese over the chips, and pop it in the oven for a couple of minutes, just long enough to melt the cheese. Take them out and let them cool for about five minutes, and voila! You have a lovely, delicious treat ready for your consumption.

Hope you enjoy the recipe, I actually really enjoyed the process of making this blog post!
In the comments, let me know what your favourite party recipe is.

Until next time!
